Windows 10 Anniversary Update?

Hello all,

I was curious regarding if anyone has successfully upgraded to the anniversary edition just released by Microsoft in August. If so, supposedly Microsoft Edge should be compatible with screen readers. However, after glancing at my system properties, the version number is 1607, though Edge is still unusable. Also, another strange occurrence is that Windows restarts my computer displaying an autoupdate Windows with "bugged fixed." Thanks for any assistance in advance.

Microsoft edge is accessible with narrator, but only narrator. JAWS and NVDA don't yet work with it last I've heard. However, there are significant other improvements. One of the most noteable ones is that when you do a search either with Cortana or via other means, if you're running a screen reader, windows should be able to tell and open up internet explorer automatically rather than Microsoft edge. Mail is more accessible, as well as a bunch of other things.

I don't understand why it is taking Microsoft so long to get with it. It's such a disappointment.

Well, even for seeing folks, edge isn't all that.
Sure, we'd all like a look at it, and with Microsofts screen reader you can, but Chrome and Firfox are better choices in my opinion.
Maybe Microsoft just hasn't done what is required yet due to their screen reader working.
To me, the lack of Edge just isn't important.
Over all, it is great and works well the update.
Plus for us, it is the best price, free still.

True, though on Blind Bargains, there was discussion concerning the newly implmented Edge accessibility. False advertising!! Lol. Yes, free is wonderful. Agreed. Firefox is my browser of choice. Thanks. Any idea about the autoupdate Windows dialogue?

You mean you wish to see what is going to get on your system?
To read adialogue?

box presswindows key plus A.
You really don't need to worry, the updates will get on when they do.
You can also go to settings then update and security to see them.
Is that what you mean?

I don't recall the blind bargains podcast mentioning that edge was accessible with JAWS or NVDA. All I remember them saying is that it's accessible with narrator, which it pretty much is for your basic and some intermediate browsing needs. Microsoft is working with screen reader companies to implement accessibility for Edge, but we may probably not see it for a while, unless JAWS 18 has it. We should know by the end of the month if that will be the case. If Jaws gets it, then NVDA will probably be not too far behind.

NVDA has had edge support before the windows update. Please unload jaws and try edgewith NVEDA.

I've read it isn't complete and doesn't work well though.

speaking of all these new things in windows, does anyone know where to find documentation for jaws touch screen support? I have looked in the jaws help and on the freedom scientific site and not found any clear listing of touch gestures.

Email them at support@freedomscientific.com
Ask the same question, and you'll receive your answer.

I did not feel like making a new board, so here goes. I have noticed so far when searching the windows10 store the same apps such as bank of America, Netflix for the most part work with jaws. Its very positive to see Microsoft begin to quickly add accessibility to the app store, mail and more. If this keeps up my android and IPhone just might have stiff compitision when I'm at home.
